Ciao, como estai lovies?

I'm having a grrrrreat weekend. I just fold into my weekend time. It envelops me and its cozy and rejuvenating and consciousness altering. Let me explain...

On Friday night I was asked to spin at The Reformation. Its this vibey boutique on W. 3rd St in Los Angeles. The lovely, gorgeous, funnnnyyyy Kelly Michelle Walker hit me up and was like, "yo, can you?" and i was like, "wordlife" and she was like, "challlllll". When I walked in Ms. Jen Rae and Ms. Katie Raines were there trying on cute clothes and getting fitted for things and being fabulous just standing there, mostly. It was such a lovely suprise!! So, I basically played THE JAMZ. Anything girls who love R&B might just lose their minds to. Plus I got a cuh-yuuute new top. Called Boo. So, there's that.

Thennnnnnnn Saturday was epic. Epically long. And just full of all kindsa people and activities and music and old friends and new friends. I spent the whole darn day with my old dear friend Mika. He's a Brooklynite and you should really look him up if you're out that way. He's a gem. He holds this event? festivus? bbq? I dunno whatver you want to call it, its a good time. Its called Consumption. It's held at his father's metal works. His father is brilliant. We watched the Labyrinth on a projector. We watched three bands. I spun during every break.. all kindsa stuff. I felt like I was making a scrapbook of all these different genres and feelings and moments. I'm discovering that DJing is not something I want to let go of just yet. In fact, I think I'm falling in love all over again.

This morning was yoga on the bluff with Dharma. Serious hangtime at portfolio. Then FLOORRRRRSETTT! Ew.grrrr. Looks like I'll be a vampyre in the least sexy sense of the word for the next few days. I'll keep you updated. I'm always happy with the end result, the process is just wronggggguh.

Anyway... fashion, right?! Pretty babies in pretty frocks? Ok, you got it.

Milla Jovovich was on the cover of the Los Angeles Times Magazine this past week. I kinda die over her. Something in her eyes. She's just dreamytime.... take it slow.

i was hipped to this artist, debbie grossman. her work, 'my pie town' is based on farm security administration photographer Russell Lee's classic 1940 portrait of Pie Town, New Mexico, grossman appropriates and photoshops Lee's photographs to re-imagine Pie Town as a homestead community populated exclusively by women. (insert chill vibe here)

grossman's website is also worth checking out for a few more pietown images and a sad but moving work that's a poignant tribute to her mother.

just been thinking about what light does. what faith does. what prayer does. how this transcends the physical and spiritual worlds. i always return to the image to better explain my heart. i have long been a a subscriber to the school of thought that believes that words consistently fail to accurately explain emotion or even what is 'real', being that they are a construct of man and therefore subject to human subjugation, etc. what we see, music we hear, things/people we touch... just works.

i'm writing this most belated blog from the comfort of my bed.. sick day. it's been too long and there is so much inspiration in my world its hard to say, ok, this is what i want to share. make a point of taking the time to frame it for the reader. etc. etc. it's much like in prayer - if i were to truly stop and pray for everything, everyone i should, i'd never be done.

in any event, i stubbled upon this blog today. the whole thing is in french so i have no idea what it's about ;) but there are loads of pictures of children from the continent of asia. mostly focusing on afghanistan, parts of china, other small countries located near the middle east and northern india.

these children are beautiful. i never expected so many gingers and the color of their eyes and the beadwork in their clothing. the colors and textures. just enchanting.

i was thinking about how this is an area that western media shrouds in darkness, in conflict and in a lot of cases this is not just a media construction but a reality. to see the color, the light in these images - just opened my heart to another possibility. another life. it gave me hope.

i haven't been able to escape alice in wonderland. it's kooked. i def went to see the flick with some of my lovelies the other night, but i certainly didn't sign up for this. whether it's a story on npr about the real life alice or the new, limited edition collection of alice in wonderland inspired pieces from forever 21 (that i'm in charge of styling this week!).

i was kinda over it. alright, a lot. a lot over it.

then... the dust settled (for approximately two seconds) and like a phoenix rising from the ashes, comes harper's bazaar - russia.

first. it's chloe sevigny.
second. it's alice in wonderland.
mostly. it's dreamy.. and hot.. and whimsical. everything lewis carroll must have aspired to create in that lolita-esque wonderland we all know and love. so, without further adeu...

initium shoot

so, i was sitting in traffic on the 710 last week when i got a call about modeling for initium eyewear's newest book/advertisements. i kinda thought it was a joke to be honest, i just don't see myself as a model, but it was an opportunity to work with some of my favorites so i said, 'YES!'

after work on friday, i hustled down to my dear friend jessica mansen's house to get ready. she was also modeling for the shoot and uh, in case you didn't know... she's a total babe and crazy talented. you should really peep her band deep sea diver, they play shows all over l.a.

when i got to her pad, my other super talented friend, tiffany patton, was there. she is a glam squad supreme. she's been working it out as a make-up artist for years and has worked on countless music videos, short films, photo shoots and weddings (wink wink ladies, it's just about that season). she had set up a styling section on one end of the house, a make-up station on the other.. it was genius.

as i was cleaning brushes and tiff was working on jessica, mr. wignall walked in. matt wignall was the photographer/designer of the concept for the shoot. he immediately started us showing us concept inspirations.. hunter s. thompson, black and white, vibey.

when i have more images i'll continue on with the story of how the night unfolded. let's just say, old haunts, places that are haunted, something borrowed, something blue.

when i was booping around yesterday, i picked up the new harpers bazaar. it had all my favourite 90''s models inside (with their own editorials!!). to be honest, almost every page made my heart go pitter patter. 'specially at the end.. when i feasted my eyes on miss shalom harlow. she is BOSSY.. chameleon-esque..legs for days.. cat eyes.. busts out the porcelain/waif look like nobody's business....

i was thinking today about my childhood.. my parents were superheros.. there was so much possibilty - no restrictions on our creativity. there's a reason why adults always think this or that era was the 'golden period' of their lives. no matter what was happening in the world or with civil rights, etc. they are times we idealise, times that maybe we should re-examine. maybe it's the hope of the newness that captivated us so. ya'll must remember when you first fell in love.. with a person, an idea, an epiphany... the elation. it was like you discovered the MOON. anyway, i tried to figure out what it was about our childhood that made it so magical, what I came up with you'll find below.

This past week I was given some amazing opportunities to flex my styling muscle! I loved every minute of it!

The first shoot came to me via Beckie Lynn - she's my homegirl from BrightLights LA that I had the runway moment with back in March. It was for a submission for Flaunt Magazine through Smashbox... keep your finger's crossed guys.

Our photographer, Kurt Linder, was a gem.
So talented.
Knew exactly what he wanted.
So easy to work with.
It also turns out that we graduated high school together! My world just gets smaller everyday.

I was really happy because I was able to pull from my friend, Bre's line.. BreannaLee (drops S/S 10 ya'll). She also has a couple blogs you might wanna check out till her website is up...

these past few weeks have been eye opening..

i have had the opportunity to see some of my friends that live far away (awesomeness!!) and hang out with my family a lot (specially now that i'm camping out in my old room!)...

there have been circumstances that have baffled me and been huge lessons... i learned that i can't allow people's words to affect me, especially if they are venomous and untrue. i learned that in bumping up against those situations all i can really do is hope that those people receive all the kharma they deserve. in hoping for this, not only for them but for myself, i'm not being a total asshole... its just a universe thing.

so new years 09' - i hope you like my face and the cut of my jib because i'll be all up in your shit from here on out.

hey ya'll!!!

so i guess summer is (almost) in full swing....

peanut butter wolf's 888 veejay shindig kicks off manana and i can't wait - i'm preparing my liver and my sanity by staying in tonite, watching chelsea lately and drinking as much water as my bladder can stand.

i had so many lovely creative ideas last nite/yesterday.

i came up with a conclusive plan to get my sleeves underway - so exciting!!

also i planned out the intro of a short story i will be writing. note i didn't say novel as that would be a tad, what's the word?, ambitious. so yeah, watch out faulker... i'm comin to gettcha!!!

if anyone wants to join me in summer activities i can be found at ultra lux salon and lounge, on jason or erin's couch, in my bed or at the beach :)

'Eric the yoga teacher said something that really resonated with me. it resonated because it is something i often forget until the process has ended and then understand. He said not to be worried about what level of flexibility or strength we were at, not to worry if the person next to us had their foot behind their head and we totally didn't. He said what mattered was that we were right here. In this moment of now and we had accomplished what we had accomplished. We were there for ourselves, not for the guy next to us, so who cares what they are able to do. In the end I do care, only because I enjoy seeing people progress. Not because I have an inferiority complex. Or maybe I do.'

i've got a lot on my mind today. of course my soundtrack is pink floyd right now, i do feel like a revolution is afoot. yesterday i read the New York Times with fervor. Today 'by chance' I went to Whole Foods for lunch and bought Adbusters. I'm only half-way through but basically every major message that came screaming off the page from yesterdays publication was amplified today. A couple of things. When are we going to be active participants in our lives? Really? Not always relying on experts, scientists, technology (ha! me on my computer listening to the radio... ), whatever, to give us the answer. Why are the effects of climate change so unimportant to us? By 2045 there are going to be no more fish in the ocean. None. Nothing. In a few months cloned meat will be sold at your local market. Unmarked. Why? Aren't there tons of fucking cows? Totally! You would be correct sir. However, we are abusing them. Its disgusting what we do to our livestock. Considering what a little stress does to our bodies, I can't begin to imagine what it does to theirs. And then we eat them. Yummy. So... for anyone reading this. I challenge you to be a part of your own life. To change something, just one thing in your life for the better. Not just for a day, or a week. Be an example. We can only do it for ourselves. Trust, the government isn't holding their breath that we might actually care about our futures and that's pretty fucking sad.

i do things because i would expect they would be done right back. i do things and wonder why they are done right back. i put things out to the universe and hope it hears me. i have embarked on a new journey and wonder who will be tagging along, although i have a fairly good idea the numbers shall be kept small. i sit on my lawn chair at my computer and every muscle in my body aches from yoga stretches. my stomach has butterflies and i wish someone was there to spoon me. i'm not sure what's to come ladies and gentleman.. i'm really not. the thing i do know is that i am trying my best. loving everything in as many moments of now as i can and hoping against hope that someday soon there might be someone genuine to eskimo kiss me under the duvet every sunrise.

so... i have been given advice over the past, i dunno, 3 or 4 days. advice about love, advice about my procrastination tactics, advice about my self-confidence.

i am left with the following.... and in advance i apologize, nah actually i don't apologize, to those who may feel this has anything to do with them.

living in the family i have lived in, my whole life i was in this jello state... i was unsure of who i was, what i was, who i loved, who loved me, i was jiggly, i was unsure.

now i have reached a point in my life where i have to revaluate a lot. i am now a woman. there is only so long i can get by on my adorableness...

so the point is this, as a human being, i have to be proactive, take a positive approach to my life. jason said something to me tonight that i have been given as a lesson, time and time again... do you, be the best you can be, be the woman that a woman wants to be with... everything else will follow..

charlie said something else to me the other day... 'you are worth traveling across the county for...' i should remember that.

anywho... i have to get to bed... i love the universe... may it continue to surprise and provide me with the things that i need....

I've been lying in bed for hours now... drifting between exhausted, annoyed, elated and inspired. There are so many things running through my head right now, I wish I could slow it down for a second. Maybe get it down in helvetica... ha. I couldn't figure out why I was still up... was it the water with lime juice? nope. The coffee I drank twelve hours ago? Definitely not. Oh wait, it could be the lack of nicotine in my body... lemme check... yeah according to everybody on the internet, that would be why. Shit.

It's cool, a small price to pay for a deep breath. One thing is for sure though, I'm definitely not giving up weed... not at a time like this :)

In other fun insomnia-tic events... tomorrow I'm taking my puppy to his first dog park (I'm so excited and I think he is too).. Saturday I'm encoring my failed attempt at a garage sale, late nite drinking doesn't make it easy to get up at 8am, so I'm going to skip that tomorrow nite.... Saturday nite is the Grammy party... Sunday is Fanny time, we shall be thrifting like queens and then its the L Word (squeal!)... blah blah blah blah blah ... i wish i could sleep....

So I've been thinking a lot lately about love, its applications, how one can express it all the time, to everything, etc. etc. I want to get so caught up in love that it continuously surprises me and engulfs me. I want to remove limits and expectations from my days and only assume that love will be present all-ways. I see how I have allowed love to be a smaller part of my life. I don't judge myself for it, although I have been. Now its more like, wow ok, thats what I needed to learn in a different way again, super cyclical, i really get it this time, lets move forward. I just heard the neighbor start their car next door. My window is wide open... my mom and Brett have this thing where they like it SUPER FUCKING HOT at night when we are all under duvets and REALLY COLD during the day when we are, well, not under duvets. I only now notice this contrast in temperature because I'm not going to the office everyday so... oh the observations ones makes when given the time. I wonder what my neighbor does that they have to be up so early. Bless their little heart(s). I bet they're stoked its Friday. I would be and am.

So back to love, and not sleeping... and how delirious I am and how long it's taking me to spell words longer then six or seven letters due to that fact. Today, how did I express love? I spent a huge chunk of time with my sister today. She is my best friend. It was so great, she called me and picked me up. Bought me lunch cuz I'm po... hehe. Took me to go thrifting cuz we luvs it. Then we went down to the beach with some coffee and watched the sunset. It was romantical haha. She gave me my fender strat back, shes had it for YEARs.. so I'm going to get some strings for that and clean it up and build up my calluses again. I've been trying to rediscover all the ways I was creative before. See there are all these things I am and have been but what I noticed is life wore me down. I lost myself along the way. Getting older, moving, experimenting, family, work, drama, being a woman, coming out, i've been revolving and evolvolving. Forgot to hold on to what keeps me still and meditative.

So keeping with the theme of the last post... I'm going to be focusing on the company, music, my writing, being outdoors, being out, working out, loving myself, loving everything else, laughing til it hurts and anything that fits in those categories.

Ok I'm so wacked out right now... I'm going to go make some tea or warm up some milk and meditate until my sleepy eyes close for a few hours at least.

i haven't had a cigarette in um, 36 hours, and i can already feel my lungs are a tiny bit lighter. air is moving more freely throughout my body, and soon i'll be so cranky that i could kill somebody. wasn't really trying to quit smoking, don't really want to, really. i then think about how my lungs will feel if i don't smoke for another 36 hours and another 36 after that.

this isn't really about smoking though. its more about everything that i don't want to do anymore and everything i want to do. its about me having less things in the former column and more things in the latter.
